Launched in 2009 and part of Douglas Laing’s Remarkable Regional Malts range, Big Peat is a feisty character, with a sweet side too. ‘He’ carries a big sooty, beachy, oceanic, and seriously phenolic selection of malts distilled only on Scotland’s whisky island of Islay. Islay’s distilleries are renowned for their predominantly peaty, smoky character, all offering variations on the theme of ash, beach bonfires, coal dust and tar.

Big Peat, our characterful Ileach Fisherman, encapsulates that feisty spirit of Islay with the Caol Ila spirit bringing sweetness, Bowmore the perfect balance, Ardbeg a medicinal, earthy quality and Port Ellen, a real degree of elegance!

In true Douglas Laing and traditional style, “He” is bottled at 46% alcohol strength and is offered proudly without chill filtration, allowing the naturally oily character of the spirit to reign supreme. This is a dram that is particularly appreciated when consumed in a leisurely manner, the way in which these malts have waited for you in a cold, dark and windswept warehouse of that magical, mystical island of Islay.
